Best Ever Morning Commute

Best Ever Morning Commute
About 85% of my 25-mile trip to work is freeway in Dallas. I typically leave between 6 and 6:30 am to avoid the rush hour traffic. Typical fuel economy is 65-75mpg, occasionally 80mpg, averaging 60mph.
Early this morning, there was a light rain. On the way to work, it also rained a little bit. Averaging 50mph coming to work, the dashboard displayed 87.8 mpg. At one point, it peaked at 92.5mpg.
This is the best I've ever done, but some of you might have gotten over 100mpg....

Re: Best Ever Morning Commute
Congratulations.
My commute is about the same distance and if I take the freeway at 60mph that's about the best I can do - 85-90mpg. Fortunately I have a country road alternate that has allowed a couple of 101-103mpg trips in this summer! A number of miles are through town, and the >100mpg trips are very dependent on hitting the lights just right.

Re: Best Ever Morning Commute
What helped this morning was not being afraid to slow down climbing some gentle inclines. In rush hour traffic, you feel like someone might kill you doing that.
kayakwill, off-freeway has it's advantages - less people that might run over you.

Yes, a CLIMBING number MUST BE NICE this time of year !!
I'm about 480 miles into my current tank, in PHO(T)ENIX AZ, and I'm struggling to keep 45.4 MPG.
With the current heat wave having sadly killed 26 people so far in the Phoenix Metro area, it's also killing my MPG by the requirement of using the A/C in the afternoons.
I'll be lucky to get 550 miles out of this tank and keep the 45 MPG number.....Whew !!!

Re: Best Ever Morning Commute
Got 85mpg this morning - peaked at 87.
The hardest part for me is I will cruise 50-60mph on the rightmost lane, there are three other lanes to the left of me. People will blast by me like they I hogged up all four lanes. And this is 6:30 am - before the rush hour!

Hi Delta_Flyer:
___Now you’ve got it! That magical 100 + mpg commute is not only now possible, it is only commute or three away if you can continue with your recent performance! Maybe Rita will give you a 25 + mph tailwind and you can coast home one of these nights
___Good Luck with reaching the 100 mpg barrier. You will never be the same afterwards, I guarantee it!
