P1420 - O2 Sensor Question
2003 Honda Civic Hybrid
146,755 miles
Already had the firmware update to repair the P1420 issue...
The saga continues...man I am grateful for this forum and all of the help and information...I have been purposefully verbose in hopes that other searches can see the successes with specific faults...
...after fighting with this machine for a week or so, replacing the transmission fluid in the CVT for "judder" (which I am please to say has helped tremendously), the first O2 sensor which fixed the P1166 CEL Code, and the EGR Valve (even after cleaning it ) for stalling when starting when engine when it is warm...I am back to the erratic P1420 CEL.
I called the dealership and the O2 sensors after the first and second cat are sold in a pair for a competitive $493.13 with part # 06365-PZA-A00.
So, I begin to look around and found this...
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...Seller#reviews
...now, this states it is good for after the first or second cat...the parts guy at the dealer ship says the two are different...he would/could not give me the individual part numbers...
...is it logical to assume they could be the same? Can I switch the two, run it and see if the problem moves to a different CEL...
...has anyone successfully replaced this O2 sensor with an aftermarket? If so, how about a URL if available...
thanks in advance,
tja

Re: P1420 - O2 Sensor Question
You could try a re-set of the pc and see if it comes back! Remove the ground cable from the 12v for15 sec or more. The code should go away but for how long is another question! H

Re: P1420 - O2 Sensor Question
Harold,
Thanks for the quick response; I have a OBDII unit I bought at Harbor Freight for $50 that I use...so I can clear it out. It has come back on at normal operating temperature on the beltway travelling between 55-65MPH each time...
Just wondering if the two O2 sensors after the cat's are compatible...
Thanks,
tja

Re: P1420 - O2 Sensor Question
Not to sure about sensors compatibility. I remember reading about some owners welding a spark plug extender on top of the sensor mounting area which keeps the sensor out of the exhaust flow. By doing this it does not get damaged and give off codes. Cheaper that purchasing a new cat.. H

Re: P1420 - O2 Sensor Question
...I looked at the mod...
...can it cause other issues? like too rich fuel causing excessive carbon build up on valves...or something like that?
...does anyone have an after market part number for the O2 sensor after the second cat...under the drivers seat?
thanks,

Re: P1420 - O2 Sensor Question
Well, it was a perfect fit. The new harness was about 3" longer, but that is not a problem.
I put it in, cleared the codes and will drive it...
Will update in a few weeks or so...
I have attached a picture of the box with the part number on it...
...hope this helps...
