Default How to get Better Fuel economy

I came up with a new driving technique instead of

Trying to go in EV mode from 0 to 30mph This can consume almost all the SOC in one hit from 0-30MPH (0-46-KMH)

as we know if you go over 60amps the ICE kicks in (basically you can only go at a snails speed)

Going in ICE mode from 0 to 29mph (this is the EV cut off point)

this way you can all ready be upto speed since most city speed limits are about 30 to 35... 28mph will be fine..

this can save a ton of fuel in the city you can boost your city MPG a bit and keep a higher SOC (great for long traffic lights for Auto stop )

also using Higher Octane Fuel will net Better MPG highway I get 25-28MPG on the highway with only 91-Octane Fuel...(should be even better with 93 Octane fuel)
Prices here in California are pretty High 4.399 for premium fuel so every drop of gas saved is a drop earned

be careful some stations are pumping 87 on the premium pump/selection I caught a few stations doing this... it sucked as it's hard to prove but after putting in 7-8 gallons my Advancement of timing (was getting upto 42 degrees )pulled back to about 0-10 degrees advancement and MPG dropped to normal 18.5HYW ...

If you think this is BAD I think my local mobil station is running a rigged pump as I seem to spend at lest $4 extra at that station

if this is the case why in the cost per mile with 87 much higher then with 91 for me

0.215 per miles with 87 fuel (@3.99 gallon)$4.945 is the cost per 23 miles

and

0.187 per miles with 91 fuel @4.29 gallon

I like the fact it does not downshift as much even on a slight hill

I have a fulley log with 8,000 miles on it

with a life time average of 22.6 that is with a weak 11 years old battery..

I'll Test it in v8 mode only (M4 stays in V8 Only for me )while doing a drive cycle for 164 miles.I'll Be sure to fill it up before going, on the way back at the same station and pump..

I stopped going to another station as they were ripping me off at the pump(cheating the amount pumped) I was spending about 4$ more at this place

Comparison of fuel economy without controlling for the other variables is meaningless. If you had run back-to-back economy tests on the same 100-200 mile course in near identical conditions, then I would consider your claims to have some merit.

Instead of conducting something even somewhat scientific, you just seek to confirm your own bias by giving weight to meaningless data (fuelly log). You're not interested in facts. You're interested in presenting data supporting your opinion even if the data are of low or zero value.

Why does the V4/V8 rapid cycle with 87octane then? or stays in V8 only (Yes I can keep it in V8 by putting it in M4 it will Stay in v8 mode regardless of the load)

this rapid AFM cycle does not seem to happen with the higher octane fuel

V8/V4 has much more to do (in this order) with your right foot, speed, grade, and wind than fuel. For instance. I have driven southbound on I-75 from West Branch Michigan to Bay City Michigan and been able to max out the V4 timer at 5 minutes several times on the trip. Five minutes is the limit in V4. then it runs all 8 to clear out cuilt up oil in the cylinder and on spark plug.

It's down-hill 500 feet over 80 miles and real flat. Add a cross-tail wind and it can be done. On the cheapest Costco or Meijer gas available. Never premium. Not worth it even towing.

V4 five-minute timer easy to hit on I-80 Eastbound across most of Ohio. Usually a tail wind. If tail wind is strong enough V4 will stay on even going over over-passes by using some battery.

Now that's all at 69 mph! A friend that has family in Pennsylvania makes the I-80 trip a lot and averages 65% of his East bound drive in V4. Again cheapest regular.

Kick it up to 71 and the exponential aerodynamic resistance increase hurts.

The highest I had V4 mode was steady 80MPH @ 1800rpm with the higher octane fuel on flat land.

it will stay in V4 mode 35-36% engine load according to the OBD2 reader
