Aftermarket stereo system in a Lexus RX400H
Has anybody done one? Is it posible to add aftermarket amplifiers? What issues will I have with amperage, voltage draw.
Thanks, PAD |
Re: Aftermarket stereo system in a Lexus RX400H
My friend and I put amps and a computer into his Prius, without any problems. The current to the 12v system is provided by a 100 amp DC-DC converter so that the engine does not need to run in order for the accessories to stay powered and the battery charged, like in a normal car. This eventually uses up power from the traction battery, but regen and charging puts power back into the traction battery.

Re: Aftermarket stereo system in a Lexus RX400H
I was really disappointed to find that there was no XM radio available in the RX400. Then I found out that XM is no longer free of advertising, so I don't miss it that much. I wonder if anyone has done a direct connect of an Apple iPod to the system. The wireless systems are NO GOOD.

As far as I know, there are not any solutions available yet for an iPod. I am using a cassette adapter in my HH until something comes on the market. The sound quality is way better going through the tape player than an FM transmitter.

Mike, what do you mean they're no longer ad-free? All music channels are 100% ad-free. The ads in talk shows, news, etc, coincide with when there'd be commercials on TV.

Re: Aftermarket stereo system in a Lexus RX400H
I have and XM Radio system in my 400H. My son put it in for Fathers Day. I was also disappointed that it wasn't pre-wired for XM. For all the time it took to get to market, they could have done that. It isn't a pretty set up, He did a good job hiding the attenna wire. I have a velcro patch by the shift console. I was using the FM adapter, but the there are too many FM stations in the Washington, DC area so I have gone to the tape adapter. I have the Roady 2. I will brinbg it in the house and overall I am pleased with the set up.
