Re: Towing with a Chev Tahoe Hybrid

Watch your fuel used. Not the gauge; the gallons used on the driver info display is the most accurate. Reset after you fill up. When you get to 23 gallons used, start looking for a gas station, no matter what the fuel gauge says. Other than that, tow away like a regular SUV. Keep it under 5500 pounds and you're good to go just about anywhere. If you are staying mostly on flat roads, you can tow max load up, which is around 6000 lb I think.

Bump your tire pressure up a little bit, to 36 psi or so, for better mileage without harshing out the ride too much.

I have a 19' travel trailer and find it tows great. Good tip by KC on the gas gage. It's amazing how long the first half tank of gas last compared to the last half!

Re: Towing with a Chev Tahoe Hybrid

I didn't want to jump on some else's thread, but I have a question in
the same area.

I *just* took delivery of a '09 Tahoe Hybrid (Piano Black!) and the
sales guy didn't have any answers (the shop side was closed). I
am checking back with them on Monday, but thought I could get
a head-start here. :D

I want to haul my son's Boy Scout troop's trailer. The current guy
doing it is "retiring" and that was the main reason I bought the truck
(at least that's what I told the wife!) I have towed before, but nothing
with trailer brakes. This trailer has electric brakes, but what next? I
see that Chevy has a ITBC, but I do not think the hybrid has it. The
manual states it is not recommened to be installed by the dealer and
should be factory installed. Should I get a after-market unit? Which one?
I figured with the ITBC, it would be a cleaner look (and info would
display on the DIC).

Thanks!

Re: Towing with a Chev Tahoe Hybrid

I tow a 4200 pound travel trailer with my '08 Tahoe Hybrid. I installed a Tekonsha P3 brake controller and use CIPA mirrors that slip on over the rear views. I also use a Reese weight distribution hitch with sway control. The setup tows very well and I've had no issues towing through the mountains of North Carolina. The 6.0L provides plenty of power and I get around 12 MPG when towing.

Re: Towing with a Chev Tahoe Hybrid

The hybrid is rated higher towing capacity than all the other Tahoes. More power from the engine and more power from the brakes (regenerative) make it better at towing than its non-hybrid brethren.
Oh, one issue is that reverse is (well, maybe) electric-only, so don't expect to back that 6,200lb trailer up a steep hill.
