eclipse 5510 nav

I am looking in to replacing the stock FEH 2007 nav with the eclipse 5510. I have seen some pics and good reviews on here. I thought i read this before, but couldn't find it via search. When i remove the stock nav, and replace with the eclipse 5510, will the MPG readings go back to the dash screen, like it is if the nav wasn't installed to begin with?

Also, anyone have any other thoughts on the eclipse 5510? any other thoughts while i make this leap into the new nav system.

thanks.

It won't automatically go to the panel by the gauges. That panel will need to be re-wired. It is possible, but I don't know the details. A car audio shop wouldn't know either, but a Ford dealer would. -John

P.S. An easier, better, and probably cheaper way to go is buy a ScanGauge!

Ok, new question, I am being told now that the Eclipse 5510 NAV system to use it you must engage the emergency brake. I guess he said this could be bypassed, but did anyone else have these units. The Ford Explorer 2006 GPS and New Escape GPS i believe has a gyroscope or whatever that tells when under 5mph, but i guess these aftermarket units don't, so they have to hook up to the emergency brake? thoughts?

The Kenwood DNX 7100 is another worthy option/competitor to the Eclipse 5510 series. :)

I agree. I have installed & used both unit extensively. Each has distinct advantages/disadvantages.

Your not going to get a mpg reading on any aftermarket nav unit but yes they can have some advantages over stock unit. yes there are also bypasses for most of the aftermarket screens out there to allow them to show video while driving, dig around the net and you can find them, I won't bypass the safety features at the shop for legal reason but plenty of my client's have done it. I'm not sure if the ford nav's you mentioned have a gyro but it wouldn't surprise me...they are Pioneer based units and pioneer has been putting gyro's in there aftermarket screens for a few years...their are hacks out there on the web for the gyro's though...no idea if they work for the ford unit though, actually I doubt they do based on how the hacks are performed.
