Honda switches from diesel back to hybrid

A few years back after getting the hybrid ball rolling with the original Insight and then Civic, Honda added a hybrid version of the Accord. Like the Insight, it was not a strong seller and, after a few years, it was discontinued and Honda decided to switch its focus for larger vehicles to clean diesel. The plan was to keep hybrids in smaller cars and while using oil burners in larger cars, SUVs and vans. Honda had planned to start its U.S. diesel push with a 2.2-liter four in the TSX this year. However, after diesel prices spiked last year and the overall market collapsed in the fall, that program was canceled.

stupid move on Honda's part

VW sells out of its TDIs and gets top dollar every year.

Odessy minivan could have a 150-175hp 250-300lbs tq motor that gets 26-30 in the city and over 34+ hwy.

an accord is 200lbs lighter than my Jetta weight wise but is slightly larger in physical size so should even out. My jetta gets 35-37 city(depending on weather) and 41-42 hwy at 75-80 cruising speeds.

I have owned a ford excursion PSD and two Jetta TDIs and they rocked power and mpg wise.

My only Hybrid was an altima and barely got 29-30 city and I tried all I could to do better. Jetta I drive the snot out of and get 35-37 city.

I had an 02 Prius and also Prius , but Toyata always had trouble diagnosing problems. I now drive a 2010 Jetta Diesel more comfort, more power, more fun to drive and get 44 to 47 highway/city combined going from Delaware shore to Rockville, Md to work. I do not plan to buy another Hybrid any time soon.

That's a good move by Honda. Now a days more people are prefer hybrid cars and hybrid cars are really performing well on the road and everyone knows about success of Honda Civic hybrid.
